By Jeremy Koering • Last updated on December 15, 2022

It’s no surprise that product comparison posts are a staple of affiliate marketing, as they are an effective way to highlight the advantages and disadvantages of different products while at the same time providing valuable information for readers.

As an affiliate marketer, understanding how to write product comparisons is key to success—but it can also be daunting with so many factors to consider. In this blog post, I’ll share all my formula for writing outstanding product comparison content that will help you get more clicks and ultimately more sales.

What is a product comparison?

A product comparison is when two (or more) products are compared side-by-side based on their features, benefits, and cost. This type of comparison allows consumers to make an informed decision when selecting which product they should purchase.

Product comparisons are particularly useful for affiliate marketers since they allow them to showcase their expertise in the industry. By providing detailed information about the products and allowing customers to compare them side-by-side, affiliate marketers can demonstrate their knowledge and ability to make objective recommendations. Additionally, by providing highly detailed product comparisons, affiliate marketers can build trust with customers and help convert leads into sales.

Key Elements of Product Comparisons

A product comparison should have the following components:

  • Introduction: Start with a strong introduction that introduces the two products you are comparing.
  • Comparison Table: Show both products next to each other, comparing key features and benefits.
  • Product Reviews: Add detailed product reviews that pin each product against each other. Make sure to include key features, pros and cons, key negatives, and a product summary.
  • Conclusion: Write a summary the key differences between the products and weighs up which product would be better for specific needs. Finish with a call to action for readers to purchase the product you think is best.

Why You Should Write Product Comparisons

One of the most powerful tools at your disposal is product comparisons. Product comparisons are a great way to provide your readers with valuable information and help them make informed buying decisions.

But there’s even more to it than that; product comparison sites can also help you increase visibility, build authority, and boost conversions for your affiliate marketing business. Let’s take a look at why product comparisons are such an effective tool for affiliate marketers.

High Volume, Low Difficulty SEO Keywords

Product comparisons offer tremendous opportunities when it comes to SEO. People use search engines to find comparisons between different products before making a purchase decision. By creating a product comparison with high-quality content and keyword-rich titles, you can tap into this high-volume traffic source.

Plus, since there is less competition for product comparisons than other affiliate marketing content, you have a better chance of ranking higher on search engine results. That means that even if you have limited resources or experience when it comes to SEO, you can still benefit from using product comparisons as part of your overall strategy.

Creates Authority and Builds Trust

An honest product comparison can establish credibility and build trust with both readers and search engines alike. When people view your site as a reliable source of information about products and services within the industry, they are more likely to become loyal customers who will return again and again for advice on their purchases. It also helps improve click-through rates because users know they can trust what they see on your website compared to other sources of information or advertisement.

High Conversion Rate

Finally, because readers come to your website already looking for something specific—in this case advice on which product or service to buy—they are primed for conversion. This makes them much easier targets than users who may be just browsing around without any particular goal in mind.

Additionally, since you’ve already provided them with all the necessary information about each item in the comparison, readers are more likely to feel confident in their purchasing decision and move forward with making the purchase through one of your affiliate links or offers – thereby boosting conversions even further!

By providing this valuable service upfront before readers actually commit to making a purchase – you increase chances of converting them into paying customers through high conversion rates! All in all – if utilized correctly -product comparisons could be one of the most powerful tools at your disposal as an affiliate marketer!

How To Write A Product Comparison

Writing a product comparison can be difficult. You want to give an honest and unbiased opinion of both products, while still highlighting the benefits of each one and making sure your readers come away with enough information to make an informed decision. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to write a product comparison.

1. Research Products

The first step in writing a successful product comparison is to thoroughly research each of the products you’ll be comparing. This means taking the time to try each one out and get a first-hand feel for what makes each one unique. Read customer reviews and look at ratings to get an idea of what potential buyers like or don’t like about each product. This will give you invaluable insight into what features matter most to people who have already purchased the item.

2. Know The Audience

Before writing your product comparison, it’s important that you understand who your target audience is for this particular piece of content. Are you targeting beginners or experienced users? Are there any special requirements that need to be considered? Having a clear understanding of who you’re writing for will make it much easier to craft an effective product comparison.

3. Draft An Outline

Once you have done your research and established who your target audience is, it’s time to start drafting an outline for the product comparison. This should include everything from key features and benefits of each product, as well as any drawbacks or downsides they might have. By creating an outline before beginning the actual writing process, you can ensure that all relevant points are covered in detail without leaving anything out.

At Profitblogger, we recommend starting with the following product comparison outline:

  • Introduction
  • Comparison Table
  • Product Comparisons
  • Individual Reviews
    • Review Introduction
    • Key Features
    • Pros & Cons
    • Product Summary
  • Recap

4. Write

Writing a successful product comparison article is important for affiliate marketers looking to drive more traffic and succeed in their field. By following these steps you will ensure your article has all necessary components for success! In short, take advantage of this powerful tool by using it correctly!

Introduction

A good introduction to your product comparison can make or break the article. Web viewers will exit your site if they don’t find what they’re looking for quickly. You need to hit them with what they want and continue to provide value.

Your introduction needs to accomplish that, while introducing the reader to products you are comparing. It’s also critical you use the proper on-page SEO strategies and make sure your primary keywords are in the first paragraph.

Comparison Table

The comparison table is the first chance readers have to see the products side-by-side. If you’re using our Product Comparison Template, this section is predesigned with basic comparison table.

If the products you’re comparing have a lot of technical specs, I would save those for another comparison table below the product reviews. Remember, your visitors won’t spare you much time unless you hook them right away. A lot of details readers don’t understand may cause them to leave.

Product Comparison

The Product Comparison is the most important section of your article. This is your last chance to keep the viewer on the site, which means you need to start providing the most value. Here you will compare and contrast both products. This is a direct apples to apples comparison.

Here you need to provide a detailed comparison of the products. Give your readers a reason why one product is better (or the same) across various different criteria. Highlight possible target audiences that would benefit from a specific product over another. Most importantly, add value–this isn’t the time to sell a specific product.

Individual Reviews

If your visitor is still reading your article past the product comparison, you have a strong chance of making a sale.

A product review in a product comparison is quite a bit different from a standalone product review. Here you want to review the product against the other product. You want to tell the reader which product is better for which target audience.

You should include key features, pros and cons, missing features, and finish with a summary of each product. Be sure to keep these reviews as unbiased as possible while still offering your opinion on why one may be better than the other in certain areas. Additionally, provide helpful links that readers can click on if they want more information about any particular feature or element of the products being compared.

Conclusion

If your reader has made it to the conclusion, it’s time to sell, sell, sell. This is the appropriate time to call the reader to action.

If there’s a clear standout product that all target audiences choose, highlight that product and sell why its the best option. However, many times both products will offer something to different buyers. In this case, I like to feature both products in my conclusion and highlight the specific target audiences they benefit.

5. Edit & Format

After completing the initial draft of your product comparison, take some time for editing and formatting before publishing it online. Look for typos or errors in grammar/spelling and make sure everything is formatted correctly so that readers can easily scan through all the information without getting lost or overwhelmed by large blocks of text.

This is the time to add affiliate links and internal links to other articles and product reviews. Adding visuals such as images or videos can also help keep readers engaged while they read through all the material presented in the post itself!

Tips

When writing a product comparison, it’s important to keep the following tips in mind:

Do your research – Research both products in detail. Investigate the features, customer ratings, and prices of each item to ensure that you’re comparing apples to apples.

Fact-check your work – Double-check all facts included in your comparison so that all information presented is accurate; this will help readers trust you as an author more since they can be confident that you know what you are talking about when it comes to product comparisons!

Highlight differences the audience wants – Identify what makes the products different from one another and highlight these differences in your writing. This includes how they are priced, their features, reviews and ratings from customers, ease of use etc.

Write a clear summary – Provide a summary of your findings at the end so that readers can quickly review what you have found in your comparison analysis without having to read through the entire article again.

Share your opinion – Make sure to include your personal opinion on which product is better suited for the reader’s needs; this will help people make their own decision about which one is best for them based on their individual preferences and circumstances.

Look up user reviews – Use customer reviews/testimonials if available so that potential buyers can get a better idea of how well each item stands up against similar competitors in its price range before making their final purchasing decision
